Anomaly – Something within the world that is odd and deviates from the normal. In paranormal terms, this is what we seek. It may be something strange in an otherwise normal photograph unseen to the human eye at the time. It may also be a form, a mist, etc. and cannot be classified under normal everyday terms.
Apparition – The visible form of a ghost.
Aura - A distinctive air, quality, or field of energy that emanates from matter and is especially prominent around living things. Some people claim to see it in the form of colors that surround people.

Banishment - The act of ridding or dispelling an evil spirit from a location or person through ritualistic means. The act of banishing or banishment is generally faith-based and utilizes one's faith in a powerful deity to expell evil.
Baseline - Investigators use a baseline measurement of environmental conditions to determine environmental anomalies during the investigation. Measurements of temperature, radiation, electromagnetic fields, air density and pressure, and others are systematically recorded to determine what’s “normal” about the site; departures from those baselines, therefore, potentially suggest what could be abnormal or paranormal. Many groups use weather, solar and geological data as well, in order to create a baseline for the region of the investigation.
Channeling - The act of having a spirit speak or communicate through a living person. This may be done through speech, writing, action, etc. Information is passed to the channel by the spirit and given to people listening.
Clairaudience - To perceive sounds or words and extrasensory noise, from sources broadcast from spiritual or ethereal realm, in the form of "inner ear" or mental tone which are perceived without the aid of the physical ear and beyond the limitations of ordinary time and space. These tones and vibrations are more easily perceived in an alpha state and during meditation, though many clairaudients can obtain verbal and sound-related information regarding the past, present and future in a variety of environments. Most Channelers (also known as Mediums) work with both clairvoyance and clairaudience.
Clairempathy - An Empath is a person who can psychically tune in to the emotional experience of a person, place or animal. Clairempathy is a type of telepathy to sense or feel within one's self, the attitude, emotion or ailment of another person or entity. Empaths tune into the vibrations and "feel" the tones of the aura. Although empathic isn’t specifically a “clair” talent, it is closely related as emotions are part of schema of human perceptions. Empathic ability is one of the first and foremost forms of psychic awareness to develop in fact, and probably one of the most difficult to manage. The greatest challenge of being an Empath is that they tend to feel like a lightening rod; attracting every negative emotion they come around; i.e. depression and anxiety. At times these emotions can become so overwhelming that trying to sort out which are genuinely theirs and which belong to someone else becomes confusing. They may even try to alienate themselves from others just for a sense of sanity.
Clairegustance - To taste a substance without putting anything in one's mouth. It is claimed that those who possess this ability are able to perceive the essence of a substance from the spiritual or ethereal realms through taste.
Clairscentience - To smell a fragrance/odor of substance or food which is not in one's surroundings. These odors are perceived without the aid of the physical nose and beyond the limitations of ordinary time and space.
Clairvoyance - Having the supposed power to see objects or events that cannot be perceived by the senses. Foreseeing the future. In paranormal research terms, having psychic ability.o reach into another vibrational frequency and visually perceive "within the mind's eye" something existing in that realm. A clairvoyant is one who receives extrasensory impressions, and symbols in the form of "inner sight" or mental images which are perceived without the aid of the physical eyes and beyond the limitations of ordinary time and space. These impressions are more easily perceived in an alpha state and during meditation, though many clairvoyants can obtain visual information regarding the past, present and future in a variety of environments.

These attacks may include: visible scratches, bruises, words or phrases found scratched or burned into an individual's or animal's skin, being hit, pushed, lashed, or being pushed, pulled or held down in bed, etc.
Demonic Possession - The action of a demon taking over the mind and soul of a human who is not being protected by the Holy Spirit. Possession may be intermittent through a demonic time-sharing process which allows a single demon to contaminate many people almost simultaneously. A single instance of demon possession may last no longer than a few seconds, but with devastating results, as in the case of a mass murderer with an automatic weapon. Individuals may convulse, scream obscenities or other ungodly things, attack people, throw, tear or destroy things, engage in self-abuse, etc. In such cases, exorcism or deliverance rituals are needed to cleanse the individual from the unclean spirit.

This term describes vandalizing or the willful destruction of things such as holy articles or icons, cemeteries, religious places, graves, etc. Places such as cemeteries that have been desecrated tend to be hotbeds of paranormal activity. This is thought to be because spirits interred there are upset or angry over disrespectful treatment of their final resting places and are wandering around haunting because of the desecration.

Evidence - Analogous to how the word "tuition" is nearly always used, not in its literal sense as actual academic instruction, but rather in its metonymous sense as "tuition expenses," the word “evidence” is used loosely in paranormal investigating to refer to the unexamined, raw data, audio and video recorded during the investigation. When the word is used to mean a specific artifact of paranormal evidence, it will be combined with a category of evidence, such as “EVP evidence” or “video evidence.” However, until one or more specific anomalies have been found within it and singled out, it has no inherent significance other than as a general pool of raw data.

Freakuency - This is TFC's very own term created by us. As you see, we have chosen to name our website freakuency. Freakuencies are like the paranormal radio waves all around us everywhere we go, waves that we would never know existed unless we were fortunate enough to have the correct receiver equipment to pick them up and to merely be there at the right time to simply listen and observe. Accordingly we spend our time trying to tune into to and align ourselves with these frequencies from beyond or “Phantom Freakuencies.” Phantom Freakuencies are quite simply the frequencies of those who have passed on from this life or the residual remains of long ago events that seem to have left impressions here on this earth.

K2 Meter – The K-II Safe Range meter (which acquired its name from its manufacturer, K-II Enterprises, was designed as a simple detector for laypersons to identify potentially hazardous electromagnetic fields in their homes or businesses. PPI uses them as inexpensive broad spectrum EMF/RF (radio frequency) detectors during our investigations. The K-II possesses a panel of five L.E.D. lights that light up cumulatively as the EMFs increase or spike. Because these lights provide a visible confirmation of EMF or RF activity in the darkness of a paranormal investigation, K-II's have come into popular use by the paranormal community as simple communication devices. Working under the premise that unseen "spirits" create measurable electromagnetic fields, investigators invite entities to interact with the device and use the lights to answer questions in the style of "one knock for yes; two knocks for no" (see "Knocks and Taps"; however, other creative interrogation techniques are possible and encouraged: questions in which the answers can be limited to five responses or fewer (e.g., "If you are a child, flash one light; if you are a teenager, make two lights illuminate; etc."); questions whose answers are a matter of intensity (e.g., "On a scale of one to five, five being the most, tell us how angry you are?"); and so on. In the capacity of a communication device, K-II meters both inspire innovation and invite criticism. PPI and many other groups have already devoted research and experimentation to the K-II's potential for false positives resulting from its inherent design weaknesses or from flawed tecniques in its somewhat clumsy adaptation to paranormal investigating. Such controversy and criticism are perhaps a testament to the fact that K-IIs seem to produce results sometimes. Further study of their credibility as tools of the paranormal trade is reason enough for most investigators to continue using them, but with a careful degree of skepticism.
Levitation - The reported occurrence of a person to rise into the air while in the midst of a trance-like state.
Lights Out - For a variety of practical reasons, investigations are usually conducted in the dark. This theory is frequently applied to poltergeist cases in which some have postulated that there is a connection between young adolescent females who are present and able to subconsciously move things, many times violently, through strong thoughts and emotions associated with their age and mental turmoil. This theory is still at best controversial.
